It is designed to give users the look and feel, and the experience of a mobile application by accessing its web pages on a browser. Simply put, PWA is an optimized web page to provide an app like functionality. PWA works when a platform or its services are accessed on mobile web, but without installing its mobile app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As mentioned, PWA is focused on providing app-like features. This includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Faster transition between pages<\/li><li>A complete app-like interface<\/li><li>Ability to send push notifications (requiring users\u2019 permission)<\/li><li>Offline content accessibility, and more.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We already have mobile application, then why did we need progressive web apps?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mobile devices allow users to download native apps\u2012applications you download from App Store or Google Play\u2012but PWA is better. Why and how?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrew Gazdecki <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/forbestechcouncil\/2018\/03\/09\/why-progressive-web-apps-will-replace-native-mobile-apps\/#1f868e0d2112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">answered<\/a> the question in a Forbes article, \u201cPWAs are more efficient than native apps. They work on-demand and are always accessible, without taking up a smartphone\u2019s valuable memory or data. By choosing to use a PWA over a native version of the same application, users consume less data. However, this doesn\u2019t mean users need to sacrifice the convenience of a native app. They are still able to save the PWA to their home screen &#8212; it\u2019s installable without the hassle of a real download.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/n3-MOnXqSDIcg3mZ8XokEiKx1ecs1_Re1Kt46tY3bhhFmnSZ1WG6vHsv7plmbBXOB1Mszp2sUQ_gB07Nf4OjS2GErlp7hBXzF9YsN6gpABGlMM760BTxWtCmuTLQmfOvXVZtItxr\" alt=\"Native Mobile App vs PWA Web Page\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Lately, the most popular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adpushup.com\/blog\/mobile-native-advertising\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">native mobile<\/a> apps we use are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pwastats.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">making their platform more accessible<\/a> using PWA, especially, e-commerce and social media portals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-next-what-is-amp\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Next_What_is_AMP\"><\/span>Next, What is AMP?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>AMP or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adpushup.com\/blog\/publisher-guide-google-accelerated-mobile-pages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Accelerated Mobile Page<\/a> was introduced by Google in 2015 to create faster loading web pages for mobile devices. Google open-sourced the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/amp.dev\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AMP Project<\/a>\u2019 to help developers build these web pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to create mobile-friendly websites, the unnecessary (inline) JavaScript is removed. Furthermore, the CSS is limited to 50KB for inline use and Google caches the website content to provide a CDN like functionality. This is how it will look like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>User searches for a service and an AMP-enabled result appears on his\/her screen. This means a lightweight and pre-cached website is waiting for the user to get clicked on. Once the user clicks on the website, the publishers can engage the user with an app-like web page that asks to send push notifications. This web page enables the user with features like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Offline browsing of content and service<\/li><li>Smooth transition even during a slow internet connection<\/li><li>An app-like experience<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What\u2019s stopping us from adopting this idea?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prime challenge is development. While AMP works on the rule of using only HTML and CSS, and avoiding JavaScript altogether (for the most part), PWA pages are designed mainly using JavaScript enabled service workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, this can be countered by creating separate AMP pages used for SERPs, post which the traffic is transferred to the PWA page. With 10.5% mobile traffic resulting in conversions as opposed to desktop traffic where the conversion rate was 7.4%, it is&nbsp;clear that businesses, both big and small, should take their mobile audiences seriously, and start investing in AMP, PWA and\/or both, depending on their needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the end of January 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/marketingland.com\/google-touts-roi-of-amp-display-ads-adding-they-perform-best-on-amp-web-pages-257321\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">12% ads<\/a> served by Google were AMP ads. It is also said to be adopted by most publishers, especially the ones concerned about ad delivery and loading speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both are powerful tools to improve site performance and user experience. You can choose either of two technologies or simply implement both to experience the best of both.
