They are on the move looking to access data fast. Whereas, desktop users are willing to put a significant time to read and research. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hence, mobile web users are likely to bounce off more than desktop users. Meaning, mobile phones are getting more impressions. And users install these extensions for their desktop browsers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And in the case of mobiles, most mobile browsers have built-in ad blockers contributing to ad blocking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an answer to the revenue decline caused by ad blockers, we have ad blocking monetization technology. However, the ad industry and browsers seem to be in conflict due to the usage of ad blockers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While browsers pitch their product by offering ad blocking, ad tech wants users to give up on ad blockers and promises to implement only the best practice\u2014show relevant ads without being intrusive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adpushup.com\/blog\/what-publishers-can-learn-from-ad-blockers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">solution to ad blocking<\/a>\u2014ad block monetization technology\u2014publishers generally go for paywall, whitelisting, placing native ads among others. Also, mobile offers location tracking, where users are signed up with numerous services, making it easy for advertisers to map users and target them better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of 2020, out of the entire programmatic ad spend, the spend on desktops is 52% and mobiles are 48%. However, these percentages are preferred to favor mobile in the near future. However, when it comes to the fill rate and viewable impressions, desktop is winning the market. The eCPM difference for these devices is 2% or less where desktop wins if <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adpushup.com\/blog\/header-bidding-a-comprehensive-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\">header bidding is implemented<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff0f4\"><em>Note: This is AdPushup\u2019s in-house data. The industry-wide trend could vary for these devices.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Recommended-Ad-Experience\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Recommended_Ad_Experience\"><\/span>Recommended Ad Experience<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.betterads.org\/research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Better ads standards surveyed<\/a> 66,000 users and asked to rate their ad experiences. Here is what they found:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For mobile web experience, these are the least preferred ads:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Pop-up ads<\/li><li>Prestitial ads<\/li><li>Mobile pages with more than 30% ad density<\/li><li>Flashing animations<\/li><li>Poststitial ads that require a countdown to dismiss<\/li><li>Fullscreen scroll over ads<\/li><li>Large sticky ads<\/li><li>Auto-playing videos with sound<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And for the desktop, these ads marked as most intrusive by users:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Pop-up ads<\/li><li>Auto-playing videos with sound<\/li><li>Prestitial ads with a countdown<\/li><li>Large sticky ads<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why is this important?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Intrusive ads are directly associated with the use of ad blockers. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adpushup.com\/blog\/what-publishers-can-learn-from-ad-blockers\/\" target=\"_blank\">2020 is predicted to cost $35 billion<\/a> to ad tech because of ad blocking. Hence, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adpushup.com\/blog\/better-ads-standards\/\" target=\"_blank\">Coalition for Better Ads<\/a> wants ad tech to understand users and stop with the intrusive ads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Then what is the recommended ad experience?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For answering this question, publishers should start with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adpushup.com\/blog\/how-google-ad-experience-report-can-help-publishers\/\" target=\"_blank\">Google Ad Experience Report<\/a>.
